This might not be what you’re looking for but a Chiropractor can work wonders!! for everything really, your immunity in general, other ailments, and especially back trouble. Usually you can get initial x-rays for about $120 & then adjustments for $20-30 a visit, which isn’t too much really if you’re in pain.

A couple of things you can do. If you have a good herbal store near you or in your area go there. Get some LOBELIA INFLATA either in its natural form (leaves) or a tincture. Also get some (couple of ounces)of the hottest herbal cayenne (chili) powder available, usually around 100,000 heat units. When you get home make a tea of the lobelia inflata and have your grandmother drink it over 15 to 20 minutes. While she is doing that get some extra virgin olive oil and pour some in a small bowl or dish. Mix in the cayenne until you have a mash. Wetter than a paste but not as dry as a paste. When Grandmother is done drinking the lobelia tea she should feel totally relaxed. Lobelia Inflata is the strongest muscle relaxant in the world and is all natural. Next have her lay on her stomach and you carefully massage small amounts of the cayenne/olive oil mash onto the hurt part of her back. Do this for about 20 minutes until she is feeling warm and drowsy. Then with a soft warm slightly damp cloth wash it off. Have her take a nap. Do this several times a day and she should be feeling like a million dollars soon.

Muscle spasm? Try applying hot compress for 20minutes on the affected muscles. just be sure the temperature is around 40 to 44degrees centigrade to prevent burns. gentle stretching after applying heat is also effective. take note of the GENTLE there.

Stay away from Chiropractors. I have worked for a couple, and they will always find something to get money out of. I used to get a commission for telling patients that they needed to see the “Dr.” (I was a massage therapist).
The truth is, it was the massages that really helped people feel better. Not only does tough have a healing property, but any alignment done without massage will just go back to it’s misaligned state. The bones follow where the muscles push them.
Try getting her to a therapist a couple times a month. No spas, just a clinical massage therapist, or Physical therapist.
Hope this helps!

If it’s your Grandmother, she probably sits alot. I’m sure her psoas muscle has shortned to the point where here pelvis has done some serious rotation. What she needs is a good massage therapist to come in and release her psoas muscle and her quadradus Lumborum. I woulnd’t put any heat on the site incase there is inflammation…the heat would make it worse
You can also look into a homeopathic preparation of arnica montana for the muscle strains. If you do decide to go the chiropractic route, see a MT first, then get adjusted.
