Are there any remedies out there to improve the health of your gums without breaking the bank at the dentist?

I need to get braces and my gums need work along with plaque removal. Any suggestions on how to improve that situation, besides the obvious of brushing and flossing. Thanks!

Brushing your teeth after every meal and at rising from your nights sleep. Brush low to the gums. A water pick is also excellent for your gums. Massage your gums with your fingers. Use latex gloves please, or wash your hands well.

There is nothing you can do at home that will reasonably remove plaque build-up. You’ll need to see the hygienist first then follow their aftercare instructions. Good luck

actually, the best way is to have a great oral hygiene regimine that includes frequent flossing and brushing. if you have a manual brush, you may want to opt in for an electronic one because they get off a lot more plaque and tartar. Check out and click on the gingivitis link on the left for more tips.

There’s nothing out there that replaces regular cleanings that effectively removes the harden plaque up at the gumline. When i had braces, the Waterpik was great in between flossing. It cleaned the brackets and took out larger pieces of food. It massages your gums too. But yeah, just keep flossing/brushing and get those cleanings. I missed a lot when i had braces and I had staining after they came off. Good luck!
