I was wondering what you wish you knew back then to help stay in shape, wrinkle free, or just healthy in old age. I already know that smoking and tanning are horrible for wrinkling, but what are your others tips or advice? Thank you soo much. :D

Smoking, tanning and regular alcohol together use doesn’t just add to wrinkling, it multiplies it…very stressful on your liver too. A one-a-day vitamin taken every day starting in your 20’s may actually help preserve the length of your telomeres, which is a measure of how fast you are aging. Eat a rainbow of raw fruits & veggies daily, cooking breaks down enzymes which has an unknown number of function in your body and antioxidants which help prevent the oxidization of your cells. Exercise is good, even dancing or walking daily if you don’t want to join a gym and it doesn’t have to feel like work either. Find a career you love and find time for something creative in your life on a regular basis, stress is very aging (people often look a few years younger within months of retirement because they got away from the stress and have more time for creative endeavors.)

First off, you are going to get wrinkles no matter what you do, it’s a natural part of the aging process. Some day you will look in the mirror and see your mother looking back. It’s the truth, and you should be proud of each wrinkle you come by honestly.

But, stay out of the sun, and always use sunblock, not lotion. Don’t ever smoke. If you do decide to drink when you’re of age, drink in moderation. Don’t ever have to wake up in the morning unsure of what you did the night before. Take your vitamins. Eat your veggies. Don’t do tanning of any sort.

Never ever pull the skin under your eyes, it will cause it to stretch as time goes by and you will have bags. Bags age you. Wear sunglasses to keep from squinting and causing early wrinkles around your eyes. No smoking, it too will age you. Drink water, even if you are not thirsty, it keeps you hydrated and your body will thank you. Wash your face with Dove or any soap that has cream in it, use cold water to rinse, then use Pond’s or another cold cream to smooth on your face at night, then gently wipe off, watch out to not pull the skin under your eyes as I said before. No one told me any of this and now I have all the bags and wrinkles that you know how to avoid. Poppy

A healthy diet, fresh air and water, a regular exercise routine and a good attitude about aging.

Here are the things I think are the most important:

    1. Don’t smoke.
    2. Stay out of the sun. Wear sun screen. Wear sun glasses. Wear a hat.
I have brown splotches on my face because I didn’t protect my skin.
    3. Exercise 30 minutes every day. It keeps your heart healthy and your metabolism up.
    4. Think before you eat anything….the old saying that you are what you eat is true.
    5. Get enough sleep. If you deprive your body of sleep, you will get sick over time.

Search online for the cosmetics with no toxins. Nail polish is easy enough to find, but all the other face tools that have no toxins require a search. There’s nothing more sensible for the long run than not starting popular, well-known everyday cosmetics — not starting off with toxins.

Don’t smoke , lots of walking , moisturise everyday , keep in tune with everything going on in the world. I also believe it’s important to have good positive people around you …people with the same things in common….and lots of laughter ….then you will only have laughter lines . Oops ..nearly forgot , watch the weight .

Protect your skin from the sun as much as you can and that should slow down the aging: I came from a warm area where we’d wear sun suits most of the time and playing outside in sunshine exposed a lot of skin. Now I notice that parts that were always covered, the skin is not like loose tissue with spots.

Try not to injure yourself because later on, every fall or broken bone comes back to haunt you as pain.

Try to maintain good posture and a limber body and always stay physically active: A person looks older when posture is poor and he/she walks slowly.

Prevent nerve or other damage: If you ever get a job such as sitting all day behind a desk or a job in banking or at a cash register where you would do one thing repeatedly all day with your hands, always take frequent breaks to change your posture or what you are doing.

Don’t become overweight because it’s harder on your joints: Eat healthy foods and always watch your portions.

Don’t buy and wear shoes that squeeze your toes or that hurt because that will cause permanent and ugly deformed feet.

Brush your teeth and see your dentist regularly (so you won’t end up with bridges or caps) and need to use five minutes and five different instruments to clean your teeth every night before bed or so you won’t need to remove and soak your dentures.

All the answer were excellent. I can only add one other choice.

Be happy, see the joy in life, be glad to wake up.
Doing that can be a challenge sometimes, but nothing, not sun, alcohol nor smoking will age you quicker than mean unhappy and mean-spirited. Who we are is often reflected into what we look like.

Love people for who they are, not who you want them to be.

Ok, sorry, I’ll be quiet for a while.

All of the excellent advice given so far…
add: take good care of your teeth ,when they’re gone ,they’re GONE !!
look after your feet , wear good shoes that support your feet properly, they don’t need to look unattractive, keep those gorgeous strappy sexy high ,high heels for dinner dates, or when you won’t be on your feet much.the high heels not only ruin your feet, but your spine as well, keep for special times.i found out by experience !!

    Great answers above!

Eat healthy-and that includes drinking plenty of water.

Surround yourself with positive, uplifting people. Get rid of the toxic, negative ones.

Exercise. If you find it too boring, mix it up, i.e. aerobics one day, weights the next, dance, etc. Walk also. Stay physically active. If not, it’ll catch up to you later.

Find your passion. Find out what truly makes you smile. Writing, dancing, painting, photography - the list is endless. Cultivate that passion even if it’s only on weekends. It’s something no one can take from you, and you’ll meet people of like interests; i.e. at 31 I learned how to ice skate. After 30 years it’s still my passion, I’m retired, and I’m also an Instructor. I cannot tell you the number of people I’ve met along the way who’ve been supportive, and who share their enthusiasm.

Don’t live for your job, or make it your life. Of course you’ll do your best, but create a life balance outside the workplace. I’m hearing too many people say: “What’ll I do after retirement?” Or: ‘I’m retired. Now What?” (Some of) those people lived for their jobs…and now that they’ve retired, feel worthless, as though retirement’s the end of the world. “Ain’t necessarily so.”

Good for you for looking down the road, and thanks for asking us for our insights/tips/advice : )

    Good luck

yes you know about smoking at it will cause you to have wrinkled skin later in life, but drinking also will , fine in moderation but not too much and keep moisture on your skin at least once a day and rub it in and last try to stay out of direct sun light for long periods of time. these are basic rules that have helped me stay way younger looking than I am.
when you are young you don;t think about getting older and good you are thinking already and concerned for yourself. so do things in moderation and use lotion and you will be fine

    Hi Hannah,
most have given good advice here. A good balanced diet, low sugar, keeping your face shielded from the sun, and fresh water. Do exercise and laugh when you can.

Drink plenty of water.Limit the sun. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, limit fried food. Let your natural beauty show-don’t have a painted on face affect. Think positive thoughts-otherwise you get frown lines

You skin is the largest and one of the most important ORGANS of your body. Treat it with the care it deserves. Protect it from the elements and keep it moisturized from both inside and out–use good quality creams on it and drink lots of water to feed it.

One thing I wish I had known at your age is that every time your body is stressed to exhaustion and beyond you put real pressure on your bodies systems that accumulate over time and cause real problems when you get old. For instance, I used to be a long distance runner. Now my knees are almost completely shot and the arthritis I have developed in all those overstressed joints means that I am lucky to just walk for an hour any more!

You need to not go to extremes in any sport or job or endeavour you do. Because you WILL eventually pay for it!

(Oh, how I WISH I could dance still! It used to be my joy.)
