Why are you opposed to univeral health care?

Many people exclaim “Socialist!” or think the government wil be run the health care system, but this is entirely untrue. He’s not proposing a low-quality national health system like many think.

What do you call it when any fine is impossed on not providing health care which is Obama’s plan? SOCIALISM.
Now go to bed.

It is substandard health care. Ask any Canadian, many of whom come to the United States rather than wait for months on end.

In 2000, health care experts for the World Health Organization tried to do a statistical ranking of the world’s health care systems. They studied 191 countries and ranked them on things like the number of years people lived in good health and whether everyone had access to good health care. France came in first. The United States ranked 37th.
Americans often assume that when people get universal coverage, they give up their choice in doctors, hospitals and care. That’s not the case in France. The system is set up both to ensure that patients have lots of choice in picking doctors and specialists and to ensure that doctors are not constrained in making medical decisions.
It’s expensive to provide this kind of health care and social support. France’s health care system is one of the most expensive in the world.
But it is not as expensive as the U.S. system, which is the world’s most costly. The United States spends about twice as much as France on health care. In 2005, U.S. spending came to $6,400 per person. In France, it was $3,300.
And there are no cases of medical banruptcy like in the U.S. where 2.2 million, 71% of them insured, go bankrupt annually.
Children’s defence fund states that 9 million children are uninsured in the U.S.

Actually, here is what he said, that he would give everyone health care that doesn’t have insurance and give everyone who doesn’t have insurance, insurance.
So my husband and I who pay over 500 a month for shi* insurance get no help but the smuck who spends his money on coke instead of insurance gets it for free….

Back in 1990, the Government seized the Mustang Ranch brothel in Nevada for tax evasion and, as required by law, tried to run it. They failed and it closed. Why would you trust the country’s health care system to a pack of nit-wits who couldn’t make money running a whore house and selling booze?

we’d rather waste money on pointless (and lengthy) wars and throw our money down the drain trying to save wall street, main street, and purchase billions of dollars in stocks of arrows and rum.
it’s sorta like a dumb 20 something year old opting to buy a new video game and a glass of orange juice instead of going to see the doctor.

Look at Medicare, Medicaid, and the Veterans Administration. The Government can’t fund and manage them properly.
What do you think they would do with a universal health care plan? It would be an even bigger disaster.
thinkpinkpunkrock :

The other thing is, he wants it affordable. People think he will be passing out free health care to everyone.
What if we all paid the same amount? (hypothetically) lets say every individual and every family paid $100 (a month) to a health ins. company. See whatever doctor you want at any time, cheap co pays, cheap deductibles. Why wouldn’t a system like that work? Health Ins. Co’s would still make their profits as they would have more people buying the insurance over time. jmho
Maybe some don’t see it as a right, but it’s pretty sad when people have to choose between buying the groceries or seeing a doctor or people who file bankruptcy because they owe so much in medical bills.

It doesn’t matter what Obama proposes. Universal health care WILL be low quality health care. People need to step up to the plate and take care of themselves rather than relying on the government to take care of everything for them.

he also wants to force the health insurance companies to pay for the past mistakes of everyone — that’s “pre-existing conditions”.
Watch for your health insurance costs to soar if this passes. Your employer will probably decide to pass the cost on to you — which could cost every employee in America a cool thousand or two directly out of your paycheck.

No, I’m very much for it. Also its not socialism. The first Universal health care system was created by one of the most conservative pollutions in history, Otto Eduard Leopold von Bismarck, Count of Bismarck-Schönhausen, Duke of Lauenburg, Prince of Bismarck.

When you need an operation, you will be put on a waiting list..Can you imagine an ER,for they are already over crowded.I have friends both Dr.s and nurses who moved from Canada,to America, their pay was cut to the point they did not have an option.Small business owners will be forced to provide health care, that is SOCIALIST thinking. When your teeth start falling out because you are put on a list to go to the dentist, maybe then you will be opposed to a national health care system…

government giving you things is a socialist policy. If healthcare is a right then is a house? a car? heating and ac? food? water? a bed? a tv? if it is then should I quit my job and let the government give them to me?

A single payer system is a bad idea. First of all, why should I pay for health care if I”m not sick? Health care is not like food that you need every day. If I eat right and exercise, then I will not get sick or injured as often as a person that does not. In private enterprise, this means I pay when I need to, and don’t pay when I am ok. In a government system, I pay (through taxes) every day, whether I need it or not. This is particularly egregious in the health care industry where 95% of all illness and injury is preventable. If I choose not to wash my hands, why should the government force you to pay for my sickness? If I choose to play football, why should the government force you to pay for my broken leg? Not only is it inefficient, it is blatantly immoral and unethical.
Furthermore, if you think single payer health care is so great, then why not single payer food? Food is far more important, and you need it every day. What about single payer water? Shelter? Clothing? Transportation? If a sinlge payer, buying in bulk system is so wonderful, then why not just give the government 100% of your paycheck and let them pay for everything? Oh yeah, beause that’s called communism and slavery.
Look, if you want to smoke 3 packs a day, or live on a diet of Twinkies and soda, God bless you, I don’t care. As long as you don’t steal money from me (taxes) to pay for the consequences, that’s just evil.
P.S. what ever happened to the idea of Freedom? I would not be opposed to a government system as long as it is voluntary. If you want to pay taxes for it and use it, that’s great, as long as I have the option to say no. This means I pay no taxes for it, and get no services from it. I would approve of this system because I would never be stupid enough to use it, but I would have my money available to me so I could use a system that works. That’s the problem with government programs, WHEN they fail (they always do), it’s tough sh_t for you. The already took your money to pay for the bad government system (taxes) so unless you are filthy rich, you can’t afford to go to a system that works. Ask any Canadian, they’ll tell you this is exactly how it is.

I am for universal health care. The biggest problem with privatized health care is the insurance companies. They’re in business to make money, not to make people healthy. What is throwing more money toward them going to change?
In our current health care system, the doctors do not treat the patients, the insurance companies do.

I know a doctor who has worked in countries with universal health care and it is not all it’s cracked up to be. Sure, everyone gets the care but the doctors aren’t always so great. You would still have to pay if you wanted to see a “good” doctor or even a specialist. I don’t know how America can get away from the negatives that exist when it comes to Universal Health Care.
I also don’t want the government butting into another aspect of my life. They did this with the housing market (research something called the “community reorganization act” when Bill Clinton was in office….this is what i’m referring to) and when this act came into being it created the mess we now have on wall street. So there’s no way I want them getting into my health care.

The federal government has the money for universal health care if the politicians numbers are correct. The number Hillary, Obama and McCain give is 47 million. 10 million of those are illegal aliens. That leaves 37 million. 17 million are in families that make $50,000 or more.
Kaiser Permanente, the company that did that 2006 study, offers a zero deductible single pay plan for $3,000 a person.
So the government could take $30 billion out of their foreign aid to pay for the illegal aliens.
It will take $114 billion a year to pay for the other 38 million. The U.S. already spends $224 on Medical a year and if that money was transferred over to actually paying the insurance rather than spending it directly, the U.S. would have everyone insured and still have $110 billion left over.

I agree with you. And Guess what ???- It’s happened again ,.
A big mouth politician, who calls National Health Care ” socialized medicine ” is back in the Hospital, running up the medical bills, all to be paid by the struggling middle class, who are having trouble paying their own health insurance.
Dick Cheney is AGAIN handing the working class a huge medical bill, as he enters the hospital AGAIN on October 15th 2008.
I wonder what it’s gonna cost us this time ??????
He has it pretty good, DON’T HE ?????????

Do you think that Europe or Canada initiated their healthcare systems with the intent in mind for it to be how it is now? Just because Barack Obama thinks it sounds good and like a good idea, will that make everything just fall into place? And by the way, how in the world do know that it will NOT be a “low-quality” healthcare system? Just because Obama hopes and proposes that this would not be the case, doesn’t universal health care’s record speak for itself? Just look at the facts and make YOUR OWN conclusion.

Are you nuts? Obama’s plan is neither universal nor conservative. He wants top earners to shoulder all of the cost. In contrast, many European countries have true universal coverage with shared responsibility between families and employers, with subsidies for very low earners. I think you would find that in these other countries most families are expected to shoulder some of the cost. It is not “free” like people seem to want to have here. I would love to see universal coverage here, but until we can make people understand that they have to bear some of the cost, and have mandatory participation, I don’t see how we can accomplish this. Unfortunately the only serious candidate with a universal plan was railroaded out of the competition (that would be Hillary Clinton). In the meantime I’ll be voting McCain.
